Square Problem

Today in class (Thursday Aug. 7) our bell-work was to find the number of squares in a 4 x 4. I think we all concluded that the total number was 30. One of my questions was are there more? Someone mentioned in one class that if there were more rows or columns then there would be.

My new question is: How many squares are there in a 5 x 5 square? 6 x 6 square? Can you generalize a way to find the number of squares in any square that is n x n?
